Sgt. Maj. Carlos De La Cruz

Command Sergeant Major, 401st Cyber Battalion

Command Sergeant Major Carlos De La Cruz enlisted in the Army in July 2003. He attended Basic Combat Training at Fort Knox, Kentucky and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Lee, Virginia where he graduated as a 92A (Automated Logistical Specialist). In November 2014, he graduated from the Joint Cyber Analyst Course at Pensacola, Florida and was reclassified to a 35Q (Cryptologic Network Warfare Specialist). In October 2015 he converted from 35Q to MOS 17C (Cyber Operations Specialist).

CSM De La Cruz’s assignments include Platoon Sergeant, 2-82 CAB, 82nd Airborne Division; Detailed Recruiter, East Company, Oklahoma City BN; Team NCOIC, 600 CPT, 2nd Cyber Protection BN; Company First Sergeant, Alpha Company, 11th Cyber BN; Offensive Cyber Operations Planner, CO-IPE at CENTCOM; and Senior Enlisted Leader, CO-IPE at AFRICOM; CSM De La Cruz has deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (2005), and Operation Enduring Freedom (2007, 2009).

CSM De La Cruz’s awards and decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (4th award), Army Commendation Medal (3rd award), Army Achievement Medal (6th award), Afghanistan Campaign Medal (2 campaign stars), Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Military Outstanding Volunteer Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon (4th award), NATO Medal, Parachutist Badge, Army Recruiter Badge, and Drivers Badge.

CSM De La Cruz’s military and civilian education include the Sergeants Major Course, Master Leader Course, Senior Leader Course, Advanced Leader Course, Basic Leader Course, Battle Staff NCO Course, Army Recruiter Course, Unit Movement Officer Course, Unit Victim Advocacy Course, Airborne School, and Small Arms Maintenance Course. CSM De La Cruz holds a Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity, and a Master of Science in Digital Forensics and Cyber Investigation from the University of Maryland Global Campus.
