COL Bernard Brogan assumed duties as the U.S. Army Signal School Commandant and the 44th Chief of Signal at Fort Gordon, GA on 31 July 2026. As the Commandant, Colonel Brogan oversees more than 350 educators training approximately 9,500 students annually and represents the Signal Regiment in all matters for active Duty, Reserves, and National Guard components worldwide serving as the Personnel and Branch Proponent for more than 60,000 Soldiers.
COL Brogan commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Signal Corps through the Reserve Officer Training Corps program at Tuskegee University. COL Brogan earned his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Tuskegee University, his Master of Science in Information Technology Management from Webster University, and a Master of Science in Strategic Studies from the United States Army War College.
COL Brogan has since held a variety of command and staff positions to include his most recent assignment as a HQDA G6 (NC4SI) Division Chief, Pentagon, Washington, DC; the 35th Corps Signal Brigade Commander, XVIII Airborne Corps, Fort Bragg, NC; the Vice Chief of Staff’s - Signal and Cyber Colonels Human Resource Manager, Washington, DC; the 82nd Airborne Division G6, Fort Bragg, NC, and the Chief of Operations, 5th Signal Command, Wiesbaden, Germany.
Previously, COL Brogan was stationed in Germany, where he served with 2nd Signal Brigade as the Operations Officer (S3) in Wiesbaden, Germany. His other assignments include Training and Readiness Branch Chief (G3/5/7), United States Army Cyber Command, Fort Belvoir, VA; the 72nd Expeditionary Signal Battalion as Battalion Operations Officer (S3) and Executive Officer (XO) in Mannheim, Germany. He was assigned to the 2nd Infantry Division at Camp Red Cloud, Uijeongbu, Korea, where he served as Division Automation Officer (G6), and Alpha Company Commander of the 122nd Signal Battalion. During his tenure in Korea, he served as the Deputy J6, Special Operations Command – Korea, Camp Kim, Seoul, Korea. He also served with the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, NC, where he was the Signal Officer (S6) of 2-504th Parachute Infantry Regiment (1st Brigade), Platoon Leader and Executive Officer of Alpha Company, 82nd Signal Battalion and later as a Signal Observer Controller and Exercise Maneuver Control Planner, Fort Polk, Louisiana.
COL Brogan is a native of Montrose, Alabama. He is married to his wife, Reon, and they are blessed with four children currently attending graduate school and college.
