Cyber Capabilities Developer Technician - 170D

Purpose

As a Cyber Capabilities Developer Technician, you are the technical expert on developing and implementing software and hardware capabilities. You are responsible for analyzing system vulnerabilities, product research, capability development, documentation, and implementation of software and hardware capabilities that operate in and through cyberspace and serve as a force multiplier for maneuver forces.

Requirements

  • Any MOS may apply
  • Be at least a SGT (E5) or above
  • Able to obtain and maintain a TOP SECRET (TS) security clearance
  • Must pass Cyber Capabilities Developer Assessment to determine eligibility
  • 110 ASVAB score: General Technical (GT)
  • 115 ASVAB score: 1 of the 3 General Technical (GT), Skilled Technical (ST), Electrics (EL)
  • Must take and pass the Cyber Capabilities Developer Assessment (CCDA). Registration is closed for the FY23 WOSB.
  • Applicants who possess a Cyberspace Capability Developer Certification do not require the CCDA (applies only to Soldiers working within the Cyber Mission Force).
  • EL, GT, or ST score must be 115 or above (1 of the 3)
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a TOP SECRET (TS) clearance. 3 or more NCOERS or evaluations/monthly counseling's for SMs, 3 or more equivalent civilian evaluations for civilians. At least one evaluation demonstrating superior leadership performance and potential
  • Letter of Recommendation (LOR) from a Sr. Warrant Officer in any MOS that has worked directly with the applicant (if available), or Supervisor (for civilian applicants)
  • A Leader of Recommendation from a senior 170D Warrant Officer (CW2-CW5) is required

Major Duties

  • Subject Matter Expert (SME) on developing and implementing software and hardware capabilities and is a leader, trainer, and advisor to commanders at all levels.
  • Responsible for analyzing system vulnerabilities, product research, capability development, documentation, and implementing software and hardware capabilities that operate in and through cyberspace.
  • Conducting analysis of system vulnerabilities, conducting technical research, executing cyberspace capability development, and implementing software and hardware capabilities to operate in cyberspace.

Training

The Cyber Capabilities Developer Technician WOBC is taught over seventy-two (72) weeks. This course includes education and training on the following functional area topics to include:

  • Data Structure and Algorithms
  • Object-oriented Programming
  • Operating Systems
  • Structured Query Language development
  • Network and Computer Programming languages
  • Cryptography with Phased Capstone Assessments throughout the training
