Mr. John T Batson

Signal School Deputy Commandant

Mr. Batson serves as the Deputy Commandant, Signal School, United States Army Cyber Center of Excellence and Fort Eisenhower.  Mr. Batson enlisted in the Army Reserve in 1987 and was commissioned in 1993 through ROTC from Florida A&M University, Tallahassee, FL.  He served as an active-duty U.S. Army Signal Officer for 29 years.  Some of his assignments include platoon leader in 304th Signal Battalion at Camp Colbern Korea; platoon leader, company executive officer and then brigade operations officer in 3rd Signal Brigade at Fort Hood, TX; battalion S4 and later company commander in 10th Mountain Division at Fort Drum, NY and Bosnia-Herzegovina; observer/controller and later operations group S6 at Hohenfels, Germany; 3d Armored Cavalry Regimental S6 at Fort Hood, TX and Mosul, Iraq; strategic plans officer and then operations chief at the Defense Information Systems Agency – Europe in Stuttgart, Germany; G-6, 1st Armored Division at Ft. Bliss, TX; deputy commander, 160th Signal Brigade in Kuwait; assistant G3/5/7 then chief of operations in the Network Enterprise Technology Command at Fort Huachuca, AZ; director, Office Chief of Signal, later Commander, 15th Signal Brigade, then Commandant and 40th Chief of Signal at Fort Gordon, GA.  Mr. Batson retired from active duty as the Assistant Commandant in October 2022.  In 2024, he was selected as the Deputy Commandant, U.S. Army Signal School, overseeing the development and execution of Army Officer, Warrant Officer, and Enlisted training and education.  Mr. Batson holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Economics and Master of Arts degrees in Telecommunications Management from Webster University, and National Strategic Studies from the Air War College.

Mr. Batson is married to the former Rachel Uber, an Army Nurse Corps veteran and certified nurse mid-wife, currently employed in private industry as a senior nurse case manager.
