Col. William J. Cherkauskas

Commander, 15th Signal Brigade

Colonel William Cherkauskas, a native of Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, enlisted in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard in 1998 while serving as a Simultaneous Membership Program ROTC Cadet at the Pennsylvania State University. COL Cherkauskas was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Regular Army in July 2002 as a Signal Corps Officer and branch detailed as an Armor Officer.  

COL Cherkauskas has served in Army units in the contiguous United States, Hawaii, Germany, and Korea, and has deployed to Iraq, Afghanistan, and Kuwait. His past assignments include: Tank Platoon Leader, Scout Platoon Leader & Troop Executive Officer, 1st Squadron, 4th U.S. Cavalry, 1st Infantry Division, Schweinfurt, Germany; Operations Officer, Network and Technology Command/9th Signal Command (Army), Fort Huachuca, Arizona; HHC & C Company Commander, 86th Expeditionary Signal Battalion, 11th Signal Brigade, Fort Huachuca, Arizona; Battalion S3 & Executive Officer, 62nd Expeditionary Signal Battalion, 11th Signal Brigade, Fort Cavazos, Texas; J6 Executive Officer & Program Manager, US Forces Korea, USAG Yongsan; Executive Officer and Deputy G3, 7th Signal Command (Theater), Fort Eisenhower, Georgia and Battalion Commander of the 307th Expeditionary Signal Battalion-Enhanced, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. Most recently, COL Cherkauskas served as the Requirements Integration Division Chief, Cyber CDID, Fort Eisenhower, Georgia.  

His military education includes the Armor Officer’s Basic Course, Signal Captain’s Career Course, Air Force Command and Staff College, and the Army War College. He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice from Penn State University, a Master of Military Operational Arts and Science from the Air University, Maxwell Air Force Base, and a Master of Strategic Studies from the Army War College, Carlisle Barracks. 

His awards and decorations include Bronze Star Medal (2nd Award); Defense Meritorious Service Medal; Meritorious Service Medal (5th Award), Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal (3rd Award), Combat Action Badge and Parachutist Badge.
