Sgt. Maj. Nathaniel A. Piper

Command Sergeant Major, 15th Signal Brigade

CSM Nathaniel Piper was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He entered the Army in 2002 as a Cryptologic Linguist 98G. He has also been awarded the Military Occupational Specialties Signals Analyst (35S), Cryptologic Network Warfare NCO (35Q), and Cyber Operations Chief (17C).

CSM Piper attended Basic Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., spent nine months at the Defense Language Institute learning the Russian language and completed Advanced Individual training at Goodfellow Air Force Base, Texas. He is also a graduate of the Primary Leader Development Course, Basic Noncommissioned Officer Course, Senior Leader Course, and the Sergeant Major Course.

CSM Piper has served in multiple leadership and technical positions across his different MOSs throughout his career. His stateside assignments include Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, Fort Hood, Texas, Fort Meade, Md., Fort Gordon, Ga., and Fort Bliss, Texas. His overseas assignments include Schofield Barracks, Hawaii and Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. His most recent assignment was as the Battalion Command Sergeant Major for the Army’s 3rd Multi-Domain Effects Battalion located at Fort Shafter, Hawaii.

CSM Piper’s military education includes Russian Basic Course, Air Assault, Unit Movement Officer Deployment Planning Course, Combatives Level I, Equal Opportunity Leader Course, Coalition Space Course, and the Pre-Command Course. His civilian education includes an Associate degree in Business Management from American Intercontinental University, GIAC Certified Forensics Examiner, a Bachelor’s of Science in Computer Information Systems – Networking Concentration from Post University, and a Master’s of Science Management – Organizational Leadership concentration from Excelsior College.

CSM Piper’s awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (4th Award), Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal (2d Award), Army Achievement Medal (2d Award), Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Army Good Conduct Medal (7th Award), National Defense Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal, Global War On Terrorism Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon (Numeral 5), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Ribbon, and the German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge (Gold Award).  CSM Piper is also an honorary member of the Sergeant Audie Murphy Club.
