Brig. Gen. Mark D. Miles

Deputy Commanding General

BG Miles is a native of Lyndonville N.Y. and is currently the Deputy Commanding General of the U.S. Army Cyber Center of Excellence and Fort Eisenhower, Ga.
 
He received his commission in 1995 after graduating from the United States Military Academy at West Point and began his career as a platoon leader in 44th Signal Battalion in Germany where he successfully deployed his Platoon to Bosnia/Herzegovina as part of Operation Joint Endeavor.
 
He next commanded A Company, 86th Signal Battalion. After 9/11, his Company deployed to Afghanistan and Uzbekistan for 8 months for Operation Enduring Freedom. After obtaining a master’s degree in computer engineering from Carnegie Mellon University, he joined the faculty at West Point in the Electrical Engineering department.  He completed the Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kan. and was assigned to the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault).  He completed three deployments to Afghanistan while a member of the 101st as a Brigade S6, Division G6 Network Operations officer, and as the Deputy Division G6.  He then joined the Army Chief Information Officer/G6 staff in Washington DC as the current operations chief.  He then commanded the 307th Expeditionary Signal Battalion in Hawaii and Alaska.  Upon completing the National War College, he returned to Hawaii as the U.S. Army Pacific G6 and then commanded the 516th Signal Brigade responsible for Army networks throughout the Pacific. His other billets included Director of Operations/J3 at Joint Force Headquarters, DoD Information Networks and command of 7th Signal Command (Theater). He most recently served as the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command J6.
 
BG Miles’ military education includes the National War College, the Command and General Staff College, the Combined Arms and Services Staff School, the Signal Officer Basic and Advanced Courses as well as the Airborne and Air Assault courses. His civilian education includes a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from West Point, a Master of Science in Computer Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University and Master of Science in Strategic Studies from National Defense University. He also has obtained the Certified Information System Professional (CISSP) and Certified Information Security Manager (CISM) certifications.
