Remarks by
Maj. Gen. Paul Stanton

  • Distinguished guests, friends, family, and Team Eisenhower – thank you for joining us and enduring the best of Augusta in August so that you can celebrate the continuing successes of the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Marines that are on the parade field.  Hopefully the afternoon thunderstorms won’t mess up your travel plans.
  • Thank you to LTG Beagle – Sir, your leadership and the climate you set within your command is what our Army needs in an unprecedented time and pace of modernization… We are transforming in contact with your guidance.  Thank you for the slack in the rope to push initiatives.  Rolling up our sleeves, not wringing our hands!
  • Thank you to my Mom and Dad.  One’s character evolves and matures over time, but the foundation is set at home.  I am proud of how I was raised -- to value the combination of hard work, intellectual pursuits with thoughtful analysis, and compassion for those around us.  I’ve benefited from “ASEP-D”… D for Dad and the living room conversations about how the Army runs.  Nothing like having your own leader development course at the dinner table.
  • My children are fantastic human beings – not one wanted to become a computer scientist – perhaps I should have the whiteboards removed from the house… but all are wildly successful.  Most importantly, they are finding a way to contribute back to society… as a nurse, a counselor, and a volunteer in their respective communities.  Nomi and I are immensely proud and appreciate your resilience as Army kids.
  • Thank you to Nomi
    • No one will ever know the time, energy, and emotional endurance you have dedicated to the men, women, and families of Fort Eisenhower.  Shaw Pick and Reggie Evans may come close, but not really
    • Very proud of you and your contributions to our CSRA community – you are a force for good with a heart of gold and the stamina to drive outcomes in the harshest of circumstances.  Fort Eisenhower and Augusta are lucky to have you.  I’m even luckier – I love you.
  • I’ve said my thanks to our team in an air-conditioned room over good food at the Eisenhower Catering Center (all you command teams should use it), so that I don’t have to run through the list while our soldiers are sweating on the parade field.
  • Let me thank those sweaty soldiers who represent what is great about our Army and our Military – the bright future of our technical professionals that will execute and lead operations in a data centric fight.
  • Thanks for being on the parade field – you are in the process of strengthening our profession as you brace under the heat and withstand the humidity.  Our Army ceremonies tie us to our roots even as we project towards the future.  I appreciate the individual and collective discipline from all.
  • If I may, let me address you for a minute, however – the soldiers and leaders of the Cyber Center of Excellence and Fort Eisenhower.  I think that we’ve collectively made progress towards ambitious goals and set conditions to ultimately achieve them… but much work remains.  I ask that you continue on to the objective and I offer my encouragement.
  • First, Quality Of Life is a readiness issue – do your part to make your unit, your installation, your neighborhood better.  The team will continue to build new homes, repair our barracks, and construct a state-of-the-art world-class educational environment, but each much contribute.  Do your part.
  • Be positively intrusive – promote positive behaviors to prevent harmful behaviors.  Look each other in the eye and communicate directly.  We are teammates on the best fighting force in the world – take care of one another.
  • If you say “AI or ML” put it in context – be data literate and know what you’re talking about.  Invest the time in your own professional self-development to keep pace with the rate of change of technology… our Army needs your expertise.  You are our technical professionals.
  • Drive change – it is needed.  Always improve your fighting position.  Build on the foundation you have already created.  Just like the foundation for our new campus that we can clearly see just behind the parade field – the vision is clear, metal framing, cement, and the windows are set, but now there remains much work to turn that frame into the Cyber Power Projection Platform for our future.  So, too, have you laid the foundation for a number of remarkable accomplishments that are changing how we fight.  Now fight all the way to the objective.
    • Integrate EW into the fight
    • Design, configure, operate, and defend our network to move the right data to the right place at the right time to make better and faster decisions than the enemy
    • Refine and scale Readiness for cyber, EW, and Signal formations
    • Continue the 24/7 fight in support of our Nation’s top priorities from non-descript, windowless buildings around post
  • I am immensely proud for having served alongside you – watching your talent and motivation transform Big Ideas into reality.  I look forward to continuing to watch from afar, sending you data from the big pipes all the way to the handheld leader radio.
  • You will undoubtedly be successful under the confident and skilled leadership of Ryan Janovic.  He is bringing fresh perspectives, ideas, and leadership to the team.  Success is imminent.
  • Thanks to Shannon and Ryan that help “Big Ryan” remain energized and focused – it’s a family undertaking and Nomi and I appreciate you
  • Ryan – that room in the basement is awesome, but the geese are loud in the morning
  • Thanks again to all for blessing me and Nomi with three unforgettable years – as a team, we’ve shared countless high points and weathered the low points.  We remain proud and thankful to have been part of this organization and this community.

  • The assessment of a new commander begins as stop watches throughout the audience begin to measure the length of these remarks. I understand the brevity- standard is even more important as Georgia humidity and heat start to climb.
  • Distinguished guests -thank you for being here ... please allow me to buy some time by appropriating the individual greetings already afforded to you.
  • LTG Beagle, Sir. Thank you for gathering all of us here today and hosting this change of command. In so doing, you have allowed for a physical reminder of what makes the Cyber Center of Excellence and Fort Eisenhower "excellent" - - it is the men and women in front of us and all those they represent.
  • It is they who FORGE AND PROJECT power for our Army Drill sergeants, instructors, and leaders here are committed to forging the future by building technical acumen and the profession of warfighting for Soldiers, Noncommissioned Officers, and Officers alike.
  • Next to the trainers stand the operators; Fort Eisenhower is awake all day, every day with strategic intelligence of national importance, cyber operations with global relevance to our Army & Joint Commanders, and medical & dental operations supporting an entire region of active and retired military families.
  • These men and women - in nearly every uniform of our Armed Forces, supported by hundreds of civilians who make this Garrison run -are the CENTER of this Center of Excellence and Fort Eisenhower.
  • (Please offer a round of applause in recognition of these professionals)
  • OK...quick thanks as the stop watches roll.  To the mentors, coaches and trainers of mine -Generals Abrams, Caldwell, and Quantock ...CSM Rydell, 1 SG Imholte ...and a crew of six White House Fellows - and all those YOU represent, thank you for your time today and investment in me over the years.
  • To the community of friends - notably filling nearly a whole tent-who have cared for my Shannon and Ryan Jr. over the past five years, thank you for exemplifying what we have come to enjoy about the Greater Augusta community- it is rich in talent, patriotism, and neighborly love for one another. We are excited to remain in the CSRA and will continue to connect this Fort with this community.
  • To those on the field and those in class or on mission now - thank you for trusting me to be on your team. My family will give you all we have. We are humbled to be with you.
  • I predict each of us will leave here today humming the tune of military march • you heard this morning from our fabulous band - THAT is the gift a band brings
  • ... a reminder for the rest of the day .. perhaps longer .. that this morning we had the privilege to observe excellence, that our Army is standing tall on Fort Eisenhower, that our Joint Force is the best in the world, and that we should remain blessed to live in the United States of America. My thanks to the band
  • And my thanks to all of you here today.
POWER UP! BE ALL YOU CAN BE.
